Trapper Robbins
“I think of my songs as small journeys, both in their creation and also for the listener. Song ideas can start anywhere: a memorable rhythm, a lyrical phrase, a strong bass line; a concrete idea – northern lights, lost love; and especially an emotional theme – wistful regret, tentative optimism. The inspirations are endless and I always connect each song with a specific feeling. When successful, the final presentation can help transport the audience to a new place.” Trapper is a multi-instrumentalist rock composer, keyboard player, and singer with a special interest in interwoven rhythmic patterns, creative lyrics, and unexpected song transitions. His music moves seamlessly across genres including elements of progressive rock, fusion, funk, jazz, and ambient groove. Trapper manages to consistently craft freshly layered songs that are approachable, sometimes challenging, and always interesting. Through it all, there is a thread of subtle ironic urgency that keeps the music alive and relevant. Trapper has been composing and recording for over 20 years, frequently living in unusual locales for ideas and inspiration. In addition to playing piano and vocals (and drums earlier in life), Trapper has mastered a full range of audio software products and tools including performance/composition instruments and production suites. Trapper occasionally performs live, especially with the Stehekin band Agnes On Fire. His recent albums were written and recorded on artist residencies in Iceland, Australia, and the United States. All songs in these collections were inspired by those wild and dramatic landscapes and the interesting people living there.
